The trio

It's been a pretty incredible week of weather and board anticipation. Thursday i got to enjoy the company of Mr. greg Martz from the Waterman's Guild. We live pretty close to one another, so picking up 3 boards from him was a special treat. Got to see all his bitchin resin art work and sip tequila in anticipation of the 3 aleutian juice surfboards in his van.
Dave Parmenter and I spoke at length about the designs you see here. I explained the importance of the particular areas in California, Mexico and Costa Rican point waves that I frequent to Dave. He took a lot of his time and energy listening to the specifics of each board with more enthusiasm than any other shaper I've encountered. Add this mindset to one hell of a laminator and this is what you get, beautiful outcomes. Much love and respect to Greg Martz and the whole Waterman's Guild crew and Mr. Dave Parmenter for the incredible shapes! 3 more coming soon.........

Surprises in the mail

A couple days ago I got some mail I wasn't expecting. A puffy envelope addressed to me from Dave Parmenter. I chuckled a bit and couldn't wait to see what was inside! Turns out Dave sent me a note and some basswood stringer shavings from his block planers. Most people could care less, probably most shapers as well. I was stoked like a grom and Dave knew somehow that I would appreciate that. To me, that's the kind of gesture of a shaper who really cares about your shapes. We spoke a lot about all the different boards I have coming and at great length. Instead of doing what normal shapers do (what they want) Dave did everything i wanted and translated that to foam. Couldn't be more humbled or stoked in the same sentence.......

Loves those blondes

These baltic birch with clear glue fins are all time. Larry gephart foiled all of these fins. Two sets are un-signed. One tri set from 28 years ago and one keel set from 10 years ago.

Early saturday morning score

Took a ride deep into san diego early this morning. My thoughts were bordering on if i was just wasting my time. To my surprise, this craigslist board was pristine. This is a 9'1" skip frye magic model that is almost twenty years old. Had a lil blemish above the logo, a few micro lil heel dents on the deck, but it blew my mind. Still shiny, a lil antiqued from being in a board bag a good percentage of it's life. Double bass wood t-band stringer with black glue lines. Unsigned, beautifully foiled, blonde larry gephart tri fins! One red skip logo, one diamond glassing logo. An absolute stunner at a price of what most retro boards go for these days.
The thing i love most about this board is it has skip's old bottom contours (no concave) combined with his knifey rails and low rocker. What a beauty! Enjoy
